In response to requests from members, DRBA is offering a
special instructional river trip, or “paddle trip with pointers” on Saturday,
June 16. To ensure a quality experience, group size is limited to 12 boats,
solo or tandem. Participants should have one or more seasons of river
paddling experience and should be familiar with the handling of their canoe
or kayak on moving water.
DRBA members have priority sign up for this special event
which combines basic safety instruction, river reading, basic paddle strokes
and moving water maneuvers. Student/teacher ratio is approximately 4:1 and
space is still available.
As an added benefit, participants will enjoy the historic
batteau navigation system on an interesting five-mile section of the Dan River.
To register, please e-mail kmull@danriver.org with your contact
information. Please indicate the type of craft you will be paddling and
number of years of river paddling experience. Before signing up, please be
sure that you can commit a full day to the event. Meeting time and place will
be provided upon confirmation of registration.
To defray the costs of providing instructional materials
to participants, an optional donation of $10 per person is suggested.
