DRBA "First Saturday" Hike Jan 5 in Person County - Enjoy Wooded Mayo Lake Red Tail Hawk Trail

The first outing of 2008 will be a hike at Mayo Park, near Roxboro in Person County, North Carolina

The first outing of 2008 will be a hike at Mayo Park, near Roxboro in Person County, North Carolina. This hike will be led by Outings Chairman, Paul Johnson.

Red Tail Hawk Trail is slightly hilly and can be a bit rough underfoot in spots.  However, the trail is wooded and is shielded from the winds blowing across the expanse of the main lake.  The hikers will be able to lunch at a picnic shelter about halfway through the trip, weather permitting. This is considered an easy 2 mile hike.

Participants are asked to meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Amphitheater Parking Lot on Saturday, January 5, 2008.  Hikers should wear stout boots, dress warmly in layers, and bring a walking stick (if desired), lunch and water.  All participants will be asked to sign a waiver form.

DIRECTIONS:

From South Boston, Va.: Take US 501 South to Mayo, Virginia. Turn left on VA 96 to Virgilina and right on NC 49 South.  From NC 49 South pass Dixon’s Store and turn right on Neal’s Store Road (SR 1515). The Amphitheater Parking Lot is the last left before the large parking area at the Boat Launch (operated by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission).

From Roxboro, NC: Take NC 49 North 8 miles to Neal’s Store Road (SR 1515) and continue on to the last left before the large parking area at the Boat Launch.
