Volunteer Opportunities
Abound!
If you are looking for a way to make a real difference,
please consider lending your time and talents to help preserve and promote
the natural and cultural resources of the Dan River
region! Your opportunities are many and varied. Volunteers can help staff
booths at festivals, spend a few hours each week in the office or in the
field, and/or play a major leadership role in furthering DRBA’s work in
recreation, education, stewardship and sustainable economic development.
Volunteer Opportunities
include:
- Festival
booth staffing
- DRBA
publicity, making connections with press, others
- Fundraising
and “friend-raising”
- Watershed,
conservation programs and presentations
- Stream
monitoring – biological and chemical
- Batteau
research to help us know whether to build or buy a batteau
- River
and trail access monitoring and maintenance
- Woodworking,
carpentry: kiosk building and repair
- Landowner
relations at river access areas
- Office
assistance, including managing clippings files
The following
volunteer positions and internships are available
- Volunteer
Coordinator
- Program
Planner, Presenter, Project Assistant – Caswell Heritage Trails
Experience/attributes
needed:
- Outgoing,
people-oriented
- Organized,
reliable, able to track details and follow through as needed
- Good
speaker, writer; experience with office software
- Appreciation
for rural areas, love of outdoors, rivers and natural areas
- Subject
area knowledge, i.e., watershed issues, conservation, etc. as needed
- Experience
developing and conducting programs for children and adults
- In
some cases, volunteers need to be able to hike, paddle, move tables,
equipment
- Valid
drivers license, own transportation
