Description
Steps are available for handling
non-motorized boats. Parking is convenient
to the access. The 6-mile section downstream
to the Martinsville Dam passes industrial
sites, homes and the Dupont private nature
preserve. Class I and II rapids are found
in the first few miles; the last two miles
are on a lake created by the dam. Paddlers
can exit on the left at the dam, but there
is no public access or public parking
provided.
Approximately 5
miles below Fieldale, an alternate take out
is located upstream of the dam at river
left, dirt access road off of Dupont Road.
Minimum Gauge
Reading: runnable most of the year, except
during drought.
