COAL ASH UPDATE FROM DUKE ENERGY

February 12, 2014

RELEASED FROM DUKE ENERGY (February 12, 2014)

The work in this isolated, stable area will advance the overall removal effort as the company and state and federal agencies continue monitoring any impacts to the river to determine whatever additional steps might be needed.

Duke Energy scientists continue to work closely with experts from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

In the coming days, crews at the plant will continue the grouting process to completely seal the broken storm water pipe.

Given the severe winter weather, work at the site is being dramatically scaled back for the next few days until it is safe to continue.
