Background and Purpose

The Dan River Basin Association (DRBA) preserves and promotes the natural and cultural resources of the Dan River watershed through education, recreation and stewardship. DRBA works to strengthen a bi-state network of partners that contribute to a strong and vibrant regional economy.  DRBA’s programs and services are designed to promote healthy lifestyles, increase economic development opportunities and protect land and water in the Dan River watershed.  

 

Position Overview

The Administrative Assistant, plays an essential role in supporting our team and ensuring efficient office operations. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented, self-motivated individual who enjoys working collaboratively and is eager to contribute to a mission-driven organization. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is required, along with the ability to quickly learn new software. Previous experience in administrative support is preferred. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently are essential.

 

Responsibilities:
  • Report daily updates, accomplishments, and any issues requiring attention to Office and Finance Manager
  • Answer phones, greet visitors, schedule appointments and maintain calendars
  • Assist in project management by tracking deadlines and facilitating communication
  • Collate and distribute mail
  • Prepare communications such as memos, emails, reports and other correspondence
  • Write and edit communications such as letters, reports and instructional documents
  • Create and maintain filing systems, both electronic and physical
  • Input data for mailing lists, e-newsletters, and donor information
  • Maintain office supplies and manage inventory
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Organization: Strong organizational and project management skills with an attention to detail
  • Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and address challenges in the office and to work independently
  • Data Entry: Ability to collect and enter data accurately in various applications
  • Writing: Ability to write professionally, using proper spelling and grammar
  • Time Management: Ability to complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and adaptable to new technologies
     
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Demonstrated team player, with commitment to the mission and values of the Dan River Basin Association
  • Physical demands include ability to lift and move objects of moderate weight
     
Salary and Benefits

This is a part-time position averaging 10 hours per week, with a pay range of $15–$18 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
