DRBA Strategic Plan

DRBA’s Mission:  To preserve and protect the natural and cultural resources of the Dan River watershed through recreation, education, and stewardship.

Our Unified Strategic Vision

Historically, DRBA has operated with two strategic plans—one centered on programmatic and operational goals, and another dedicated to strengthening access and fairness across all aspects of our work.  In 2024, with support from the Harvest Foundation, we launched a process to bring these efforts together under one unified vision.

We worked with two amazing consultants over twelve months who helped us conduct energizing conversations, powerful interviews and in-depth surveys with partners and supporters, and lead a dynamic retreat with our board and staff.

The result is a unified, forward-looking plan built on six strategic priorities. These priority areas consistently rose to the surface throughout our planning process and include goals that will help us reach our greatest potential for innovation, growth, and meaningful change.

By aligning our organizational goals with our values, we’ve created a guiding plan to ensure all people are heard, more perspectives are shared, and environmental action is both effective and community-driven. At its core, this plan reflects a clear understanding that the protection and conservation of our natural and cultural resources is inseparable from the people, communities and systems they affect.

DRBA is committed to advancing our mission with clarity, relevance, and lasting impact.

Our new strategic plan will be posted soon!
