DRBA SUMMER CAMPS

May 15, 2013

Local kids from middle to high school will be spending part of their summer learning about things DRBA is interested in and a big part of.  The summer camps will take part in June and July.

The MHC After 3 and Upward Bound camp will be more of an Environmental Science course that lasts over a period of six weeks.  The course is designed more so to introduce the students to upper level high school courses or even a college course as it will on Patrick Henry Community College's campus.  These students will take part in Outdoor Trail Construction, learn about Water Quality Monitoring and even take part in designing some trail signage to be used on the campus.

The Boys and Girls Club summer camp will be a little more about getting outdoors and enjoying what nature has to offer.  The camp will consist of three outdoor field trips to various parks in the area.  The kids will be from the ages of 7-15 and learn about flora and fauna identification, hiking safety, boating safety and take part in a clean-up at the Fieldale Trail.

One thing is for sure, these kids will learn new, exciting things and hopefully come to love what our beautiful, natural resources in the Dan River basin has to offer.

Volunteers could be used for the summer camps.  If interested, email khodges@danriver.org or call (276) 634-2545.
