STORM DRAIN MARKER PROJECT LAUNCH IN TOWN OF HALIFAX, VA

April 20, 2016

This weekend during Halifax's Earth Day Extravaganza, the locality will be joining the City of Danville as the second locality in the Dan River Region to take a simple, yet effective, action to help protect our waterways through the use of storm drain markings and medallions. The Halifax project, spearheaded by Halifax Soil and Water Conservation District, has identified 43 storms drains along VDOT maintained streets and in some heavily visited parking lots to install the markers.

Storm drains connect directly to our rivers and tributaries, allowing trash, pet waste, motor oil, paint and other materials to directly enter untreated and to pollute our drinking water. Storm drain labels remind us to keep storm drains clean in order to protect the rivers and streams we love.
