"Virginia Rail Trails" Author to Speak at South Boston Public Library

Author Joe Tennis is speaking on his books, including "Virginia Rail Trails: Crossing the Commonwealth" and "Along Virginia's Route 58: True Tales from Beach to Bluegrass," at the South Boston Public Library, 509 Broad Street, South Boston, on Thursday, May 5 with a book talk and presentation starting at 3 p.m. The author will also be available to sign books
until 6 p.m.

 

Dan River Spring Cleanup

Dan River Basin Association's First Saturday Outing, 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 7.
6-mile float on Hyco River, Dan River, and Aaron's Creek.
Meet at Hyco River Access on US Highway 58 (GPS 36.6671892, -78.7552437).
Dress in synthetic fabric, be prepared to get wet, and bring boat, paddles, life jacket for each boater, lunch, and water.
Free and open to the public.

DRBA Forest School Day at Philpott Lake

The first of its kind in the area, the Dan River Basin Association launches a Forest School Day program reaching young children between the ages of four to six years.  The program is intended to get young children and their parent(s) out in nature through a safe, hands-on experience at Philpott Lake.  The day program will take place on May 14th from 8:30am to 12pm.  Forest School Day will include activities such as building a shelter from things found in nature, helping a Park Ranger build a campfire, and a scavenger hunt.
