Location:
At the business 220 bridge 1 1/2 miles north
of Mayodan.
Description:
The river remains scenic but enters an
interesting historic industrial district. The
dams at Avalon (1899) and Mayodan (1930's) are
used for generating power. Below Avalon is a
series of ledges that require maneuvering, and
downriver from Mayodan is a natural waterfall
about three feet high. Since there are no
portage trails around the dams, this section is
not recommended at this time.
