2018 MHC Master Plan Public Meeting

June 8, 2018
5:30 PM - 7:00 PM

A public meeting for input on the updated Martinsville-Henry County Rivers and Trails Recreational Use Plan will be held in the Henry County Administration building, conference room 1 on June 8th, 2018 from 5:30 – 7:00pm.

Recognizing the intrinsic value that outdoor recreational opportunities provide to a region, the Dan River Basin Association, Henry County and the City of Martinsville have been working together to create amenities that offer quality of life benefits for our community and economic development through increased tourism.

The Dan River Basin Association (DRBA) has been a partner with Henry County in the creation and implementation of river and trails access, outdoor recreation opportunity planning and infrastructure development.  With funding from the Harvest Foundation, the Martinsville Henry County Rivers and Trails Group (MHCRTG) was established in 2006.  MHCRTG  became a DRBA affiliate in 2007. In 2008, The Dan River Basin Association created a Master Plan for Rivers and Trails that was subsequently adopted by Henry County and included existing inventory and proposed projects for river access and walking and biking trails.

The 2008 Master Plan can be accessed here.  The majority of projects in the 2008 plan have been completed and DRBA is currently working on an updated version of the plan.  A committee that includes community members as well as representatives from both the Henry County and the Martinsville City. Additionally, we have solicited public input for the plan through a series of meetings with groups that have been involved with current projects or have a history of working on hiking, biking and outdoor amenities in the region as well as an online public survey.

DRBA will be holding additional public meetings for input and review. For those unable to attend, we welcome your input through our user survey online. If you prefer to speak to us in person, you may call or email Brian Williams (bwilliams@danriver.org) at the Dan River Basin Association.
