First Day Hikes in the Dan River Basin!

Mayo River State Park- Mayodan, NC

2-4 pm, Mayo Mountain Access LocationFirst day hike logo!

Join us at Mayo Mountain Access of Mayo River State Park for the grand opening of the Fox Trail. We will also be leading a guided First Day Hike on the new trail! The hike will be approximately 2 miles, so wear appropriate clothes and shoes. Meet at the picnic shelter in the lower parking area. Registration is not required, but if you know that you are attending, call (336) 427-2530 to help us get an idea for a headcount. Link to State Parks Event

 

Hanging Rock State Park

 10 am – 12 pm, Hanging Rock Trailhead 

Kick off the new year by hiking our iconic trail with a park ranger. This will be a 2.6-mile hike with moderate to difficult terrain. Make sure to wear appropriate hiking attire as the weather may be a bit chilly registration is preferred but not required, email Jackson.perry@ncparks.gov

 

Virginia State Parks- Free parking day for all Virginia State Parks!

Fairy Stone State Park

12-2 pm Amphitheater Trailhead

Hike along the shoreline of Fairy Stone Lake and discover how the Civilian Conservation Corps created the lake and other park features as they helped to bring our country out of the Great Depression. Explore the secrets of several wildlife species that share the environment with us. A short discussion about Philpott Lake will be conducted at the end of the trial at the Fairy Stone Dam Spillway. The trail is approximately one mile long with steep elevation changes.Link to event page!

This is a FREE parking day for all Virginia State Parks.

 

Mayo River Trails in Virginia

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Join us at the Mayo River Trails to explore the future Mayo River State Park. You will also discover some interesting facts about local wildlife, the history of the Native Americans who once inhabited the area, and the exploration of the area by William Byrd. The trail is approximately two miles long and is of moderate difficulty. Link to event page!
