DRBA Annual Celebration

Join us for DRBA’s Annual Celebration!
Free and open to the public, the event will kick-off with food and refreshments at 9:00am followed by a special presentation by guest speaker Spencer Tassone, Ph.D. candidate at UVA, who will talk about his exciting research related to disturbances, extreme events, and resilience in freshwater aquatic ecosystems and its relevance to the rivers and streams in the Dan River Basin.
After the keynote, writer and composer Angela Daniel-Upchurch will give a performance of her song, “Song of the Dan.”
The event will also include interactive environmental displays, DRBA items for sale, annual Volunteer Awards, recognition of retiring board members and an update on DRBA’s projects and activities planned for 2023.
The event will end with a ribbon-cutting of the new 2.5 mile trail constructed by DRBA on the Patrick & Henry Community College Campus at 11:30am. This project was funded by the Eco Ambassador Council.
Guests are welcome to then pack a bag lunch and eat on the patio overlooking the Beaver Creek Reservoir or visit a local restaurant.
Guests are invited to come back to the event venue for a First Saturday Outing with a guided hike on the new trail. Learn more about FSO.

June FSO - Hike at P&H CC

DRBA’s June First Saturday Outing (FSO) will be a 2 +mile hike on the new trail being constructed on the Patrick & Henry Community College Campus starting at 1:30pm.
The hike will follow DRBA’s Annual Celebration event at the Frith Building on campus.
This new trail has been funded by the Eco Ambassador Council (EAC), a coalition of regional businesses that collectively invest in environmental projects that make a positive impact for the communities in the Dan River Basin. The EAC members include Blair Construction, Carter Bank & Trust, Clark Gas & Oil, Frith Construction, Hooker Furnishings, Jones & DeShon Orthodontics, Lester Group, and Pickle & Ash Restaurant. DRBA’s Annual Celebration, the Ribbon Cutting and the FSO are all open to the public and free of charge.

NOTE: If for any reason the event needs to be cancelled, visit www.danriver.org by Friday, June 2, 2023 to determine whether the outing will be held. Outings and meetings of the Dan River Basin Association are open to the public without charge.
