This Earth Day, DRBA invites you to spend an entire week turning inspiration into action along the waterways, trails and communities of the Dan River region. On April 20, we’re kicking off the Dan River Conservation Series, a weeklong celebration of Earth Day, generously sponsored by the Eco Ambassador Council (EAC) and filled with events designed to help you get outside, get your hands dirty and gain a deeper understanding of the Dan River watershed and the vital role it plays in our shared ecosystem.
Join us in celebrating Earth Day all week long by learning more, doing more and protecting the places we love. Together, we can turn awareness into action… And action into lasting impact for generations to come.

The Lawn Grown Wild program is all about reimagining our yards as thriving and life-sustaining spaces. By turning traditional lawns into pollinator-friendly habitats, you’re helping protect bees, butterflies, and other essential wildlife while also conserving water and strengthening the health of our local ecosystems. Small changes at home can ripple outward to create lasting environmental impact.

Matrimony Creek Cleanup!
April 22, 2026

Thank you for celebrating Earth Week with DRBA! We are excited to host four cleanups throughout the region to protect our trails and waterways.
What to expect:
Be prepared to hike up and down terrain depending on location. Dress appropriately for the weather; we would recommend longsleeve tshirts and long pants with sturdy closed toed shoes for tromping in the woods or mud. SPF and bug spray are recommended. Bring your own water bottle, snacks are provided. You will be equipped with a grabber, trash bags, and gloves at each cleanup location.

Check out our Cleanup Website to request supplies for your own cleanup. Please be prepared to report the estimated weight of trash collected and photos for reporting purposes if possible.
All volunteers will be expected to sign a waiver at each event.
